National Institute of Health

Founded in 1887, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) today is one of the world's foremost medical research centers, and the Federal focal point for medical research in the United States. The NIH, comprising 27 separate Institutes and Centers, is one of eight health agencies of the Public Health Service which, in turn, is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Food & Drug Administration

The Food & Drug Administration (FDA) is responsible for protecting the public health by assuring the safety, efficacy, and security of human and veterinary drugs, biological products, medical devices, our nation’s food supply, cosmetics, and products that emit radiation. The FDA is also responsible for advancing the public health by helping to speed innovations that make medicines and foods more effective, safer, and more affordable; and helping the public get the accurate, science-based information they need to use medicines and foods to improve their health.

American Obesity Association

The American Obesity Association (AOA) is the only obesity organization focused on changing public policy and perceptions about obesity. In only a few years AOA has become an authoritative source for policy makers, media, professionals and patients on the obesity epidemic. In this period of time AOA has established an impressive record of changing federal policy: having the Social Security Administration and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) recognize obesity as a disease, providing evidence to the IRS to make the costs of obesity treatment eligible for the medical deduction, and having Medicare change its policy language on obesity as a disease.

American Medical Association

The American Medical Association's (AMA) envisioned future is to be an essential part of the professional life of every physician and an essential force for progress in improving the nation's health.

As the nation’s largest physician's group, the AMA advocates on the issue vital to nation's health.

American Dietetic Association

With nearly 65,000 members, the American Dietetic Association is the nation’s largest organization of food and nutrition professionals. ADA serves the public by promoting optimal nutrition, health and well-being.

The Association and its credentialing agency, the Commission on Dietetic Registration, believe it is in the best interest of the profession and the public it serves to have a Code of Ethics in place that provides guidance to dietetics practitioners in their professional practice and conduct.
